Nourishment for the Soul

Nourishment for the Soul

How many of you find yourself feeling worry and anxious reading the news lately?

We bet, TOO MANY.

Have you find yourself scrolling through Instagram/Facebook for hours, daily?

Yup, we have too!

In this day and age of smart phones, constant and easily accessible news (ah not to mention ... volatile political environment), it's so easy for us to get drown - and lost - in social media and "draining" news. Our world lately has become so vastly different, for so many of us, and we believe that many of us are longing for peace and fulfillment like never before.

Social Media is a good thing. No, a very good thing - when and if it is utilized in a way that is to connect, with others in our world. With a healthy limit. Its a fun platform to post and know whats going on in our friend's world. But too often, we get carried away and ended up checking out posts that don't feed our souls. We encourage you to connect via social media. But also to connect with the person sitting in your table for lunch and your colleague next to your desk who may be facing a rough day or just simply needed your help. We believe that the feelings of face-to-face connection and scrolling social media, the latter often "trapped" us in feeding our souls with empty calories.

Reading the news expand our knowledge and curiosity. But at the same time, we also got

to be smart to know when just need to shut off all the "noise" and only feed "real food" for souls. ...Like books. We launched this Instagram series

Aite .. Here is our FAVE BOOKS for Fall, so far:

1. E. E Cummings (Selected Poems) by Richard Kennedy

Our Fave Part of this book:

"yes is a pleasant country:
if's wintry
(my lovely), let's open the year

both is the very weather
(not either)
my treasure,
when violets appear

love is a deeper season
than reason;
my sweet one
(and april's where we're)"

"somewhere i have never traveled, gladly beyond
any experience, your eyes have their silence:
in your most frail gesture are things which enclose me,
or which i cannot touch because they are too near.

your slightest look easily will unclose me
though i have closed myself as fingers,
you open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens
(touching skilfully, mysteriously) her first rose"

2. WHY Fashion Matters by Frances Corner

Frances Corner is Head of London College of Fashion, a role she has held since 2005. We are currently LOVING this book. It talks about how fashion matter in modern economy and to each of us personally. We all wear fashion and clothes to visually present ourselves to the external world. What we wear is what we choose on how the world view us. But fashion is more than that... fashion is inspirational. This book also talks about variety aspects of fashion - from sustainable avenues, Prada, Zara, plastic bottle recycle, to the real fashion victims. What we like about this book is how informative, thought-provoking and honest the writer seems to be. Two thumbs up!

Our FAVE Part of this book is:

#24 THE RIGHT TO BUY: "For better and for worse, many of the world's poorest communities now depend on our purchases for their wages. The global clothing industry employs some twenty-six million people and underpins local economies and individual incomes around the world.

(In regards to fast fashion) In my mind, our greatest crime is not the buying itself but the carelessness with which we yield our purchasing power.

Rejecting fast fashion in favor of "investment pieces" will keep workers around the world employed while still indulging our acquisitive instincts."

about more than half, if not the majority of our products are handmade by artisans. Each product that they craft means something to them. Your purchases and support to us means that you are supporting something bigger than yourself. Helping a community of artisans. Fashion with a purpose.
